16th-Nov-2009 06:30 pm - paperback release in April 2010
According to Amazon.ca, the paperback version comes out on April 1st, 2010.

So ...if Stephenie plans to be working on the next book "in a year or so", maybe that means the extra chapter in The Host will be a sneak preview of the next book?!
Stephenie Meyer did this Q&A session which was supposed to be all questions related to New Moon, however there was a little bit about The Host that was snuck in. Remember those extras we wanted? Well, it looks like we might be getting a little something! Also, she says she wants to get to the next installment in a year or so!

Q: Are you writing any other books right now? - Kershia

A: One of the weirdest things for me about success is how it sucks away your time. I'm successful because I write books, but that very success takes all my writing time! It's very frustrating. I'm just itching to get back into a fantasy world right now, but the real world won't let me. I thought this would be a writing year, but unless you count emails as writing, it didn't work out that way. I was able to do a few smaller things that will show up here and there—an extra chapter for the release of The Host in paperback, that kind of thing. I've really worked to clear my time, but that is a slow and ongoing process. Of course, another aspect is that I am more burned out by the last five years than I even realized.

Q: Hi Stephenie! :) Of course, I love the Twilight saga, but I was also blown away by how beautiful and unique your other novel, The Host, was -- so I was wondering: do you have any plans for more books not related to Twilight? Thank you so much! :) Kelly <3

A: I'd like to eventually have The Host be part of a trilogy. That's one of the projects I'd really like to get to in the next year or so.

It's that glorious time of year when we reunite with loved ones (we neglected all year), stuff our faces to excess, and pass out in front of the TV. Perhaps a recalibration of the thanksometer is in order. A spin-off of the popular GivesMeHope.com site, this community invites you to document moments of kindness, generosity, and pure human love.

Despite its mainstream appeal, Thanksgiving is not for everyone. There are those struggling with food disorders, for whom this day causes endless conflict. There are the cash-challenged, who can't afford the gluttony we've grown to expect. There are the lonely, who don't have loved ones nearby. And let's not forget the vegetarians, who decry the animal cruelty. But there's one more group we often overlook: the terminally lazy! This community of lazy vegetarians offers easy recipes for an animal-friendly feast.

Just in time for holiday shopping season, this fashionista community brings you the world of haute couture in the form of sumptuous photos, video clips, and candid commentary. There's also a sugary sprinkle of mainstream movie discussions and debates on such pressing social issues as manicure styles and celebrity colonics. If you need a break from the daily grind to indulge your girlie side, this is twinkly pink on steroids.

16th-Nov-2009 05:55 pm - call for back-up gifters
Before things get busy around here, this post is to call for back-up gifters!

We had some problems last year when some Santas didn't reply and post their gifts, and we had to scramble to contact back-up gifters. So to prevent that from happening again, we hope to get people to help us.

A back-up gifter steps in to make a present for someone when their Secret Santa drops out (which inevitably happens every year). I know I've already got some volunteers, so if you'd like to make someone's Twilight Christmas by making them a present, please comment here with your e-mail, what you can do, and what you can't do.

Back-up gifters can be members of the exchange that are willing to make two gifts, or even members of the community who would like to make a present in order to make someone's holiday a little brighter.

Please volunteer!

So, please remember to post your wishlist if you haven't. (:

Thank you and have fun!
16th-Nov-2009 03:04 am - [PUBLIC] *New* Icon Post 7
I do believe I promised to make Klare icons everytime we got bad news about them or saw KC/Jenna hints. I think Heart Like Mine qualifies.

At least we had lots of Calli moments! Which is why this post is mostly Calli.

(when I do make HLM icons it's going to be all Declan/Fiona, and Calli. Maybe some bittersweet Klare break up ones. NO KC/Jenna! So don't bother checking next week if you wanted a KC/Jenna icon. That applies to the icon requests. Don't even bother I will turn you down.)

These CAN be used on Forums, other blogs, etc. but please link back to me.

15th-Nov-2009 02:26 pm - A Lesson in Avoiding Homework
It has recently come to my attention that the impending prospect of homework (in this specific case, a ten page research paper) can promote incredible motivation in unrelated areas that generally do not interest me. Some examples of such subjects include cooking, doing laundry, reading the dictionary, planning my future, and occasionally computer gaming. My most recent foray into procrastination has led me to something incredibly profound: cleaning my room. Now, let me clear up any confusion caused by that statement. You see, to me, cleaning is like herpes: avoid it at all costs. Needless to say it has been at least two months since I could actually see my floor. However, with the due date of November 20th looming over my head and the unavoidable boredom of researching on the horizon I found that suddenly cleaning didn't sound like such a bad idea. For one thing, it would be a productive way to waste time, for another, the shock of it would keep my mother from asking me about how my homework was going. So it was that I embarked on the epic odyssey of cleaning up the small hurricane that is my bedroom. And like magic, in the span of one day, my bedroom was transformed. . .

BEFORE:

AFTER:

Now, for the How To of it all.
1. Find a t.v. show (or a really long movie) that interests you enough to watch/listen to for several hours straight and begin watching.
2. Gather up all plates, cups, water bottles, silver ware etc. from around your room and put them back in the kitchen. If you're feeling super motivated, you might even wash them.
3. Pick up all the clothing from around your room and throw them onto your bed. When you have collected it all begin sorting the clean from the dirty. Place dirty clothing in the hamper and sort the clean clothing into piles (ie: shirts, pants, dresses, socks, etc.)
4. Sit down in a spot with a clear view of the t.v. or computer screen and begin to fold clothing that needs folding.
5. Collect all the empty hangers from floors, the closet, or chairs and begin placing all hanging items on the hangers.
6. Put folded clothes into drawers or on shelves and hang up clothes in a precise order (skirts together, jackets together, etc.)
7. Collect all the shoes from around the floor (try to do it in pairs) and put them in their designated area.
8. Begin collecting loose papers and notebooks from the floor, throw out or recycle the unwanted ones, sort out the ones you need to keep and place them in binders.
9. Pick up the books that are lying around (on desks, on your bed, stacked by your pillow, etc.) and give them all a home on the bookshelf.
10. Chose a surface (desk, windowsill, bureau, etc.) to begin cleaning up. Work methodically through all the odds and ends (jewelry, pencils, paper, etc.) until the surface is completely clear. Choose a new surface and repeat.
11. Begin picking up all remaining miscellaneous items on the floor and give them a home.
12. Chances are, after those steps the only items remaining without a home belong in the trash. So, through that all away and take some serious satisfaction in the feeling of getting rid of junk.
13. Almost done! Now, it's time to take that overflowing hamper and put all the dirty clothes into the laundry.
14. While your clothes are getting clean, search around the house for that elusive item called a vacuum and use it on your newly visible floor.
15. If you're laundry's still not done, empty your waste basket. Chances are good that it's pretty full at that point.
16. Move your clean clothing into the dryer so that they come out warm and soft and fuzzy.
17. Wipe down your freshly cleared surfaces to give them a real shine.
18. If you're sheets are clean, make your bed. If they're not, dump them into the laundry with a nice bit of soap.
19. Get your clothes out of the dryer, dump them onto your bed, resume the comfortable spot in front of the t.v. and repeat the folding, hanging, and storing process from steps 4-6.
20. Collapse onto that newly made bed and take some serious pride in the fact that you actually did it! Maybe marvel at the discovery that there was a rug hiding under all that mess, or that you managed to find your missing slipper. Basically just bask in your cleaning glory. With any luck by this point you have successful avoided a tedious day of studying.

It's been so long I forgot how to set up a review...
Sadly since I waited so long to write this it's going to just be a quick hit...

Okay, so. Best episode of the season. So far, anyway, we'll see if that changes after Heart Like Mine. This one gets an A an my book. I am loving season 9. The people who gave up on this show are really missing out.

THIS POST CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR 907 AND 908. IF YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW, TURN BACK NOW.

15th-Nov-2009 10:35 am - Need votes
I need a couple more votes for the semi final @ [info]eliot_lims. Thanks in advance! :-)
Let me first say, as a sort of introduction to this rant I have written, that if any of you ever decide not to write properly when talking to me, I will take your netspeak and shove it back down your throat. I cannot even begin to convey my annoyance towards people who "tlk lyke dis 4ever, and btw imho ur super hawt". There are so many things wrong with that sentence, I almost killed myself for writing it. First of all, if you have enough money to own a computer and be wasting your time on the internet, you probably have also received at least something of an education. Now I can't speak for anyone else, but I know that one of the first things that I learned when I started school was how to spell. I clearly remember all the little flashcards that said "I" "am" "the" "best" and went in repetitious cycles of doom. But despite the tedious nature of the cards, I am proud to say that to this day I know how to spell. My guess would be that anybody else who has walked in and out of the doors of a first grade classroom at least managed to pick up the basics of proper spelling and grammar (I before E except after C or when sounded like A as in "neighbor" or "weigh"). If people somehow managed to not learn about the basics of literacy during primary school, I would certainly hope that by the time they reached high school and are having their brains routinely fucked by the internet, they have grasped the basics of reading and writing. If this basic assumption of mine is true - that in general anyone with the means to be accessing a computer has had at least a fourth grade education, or else spent time in a library seeing as that's where most free computers are - I have to wonder, where on earth did all that effort go? My dad was filling out some forms the other day and he had to say how many hours a week I spent in school, we decided it was along the lines of 36. That seems like a pretty average amount of time to be spending in school. So, millions of people around the world are spending 36 hours five days a week four weeks a month nine months a year for at least twelve years sitting in classes, writing things down, reading books, taking notes, in general looking at these crazy symbols that were invented thousands of years ago and called "letters" and then the second they are asked to apply it outside of an academic setting (aka: the internet) it all flies straight out the back door. Just like that, boom: twenty thousand hours of education sent down the drain. This makes me want to rip heads off. I don't know the exact statistics, but illiteracy rates are absolutely staggeringly vast for the modern day. It drives me bonkers that the people who are fortunate enough to be getting an education then go and start chatting with their "OMG! BFF!" See, I'm no history buff and please correct me if I'm wrong, but a long time ago people started revolutions to get the right to read because the Bible was virtually the only book and the priests were the only people who could read, except for the extremely rich nobles who could afford to get an education for their children. Reading was a seriously big deal, and everybody wanted to be allowed to do it. The populace came to its senses and fought that tradition, fought it hard. They revolted against the church, because the ability to read was such a huge privilege. Wait, correction: the ability to read is a huge privilege, and millions of people around the world abuse that privilege every second of the day by trying to make things simpler for themselves. Is it really that much harder to add a "yo" to "ur" when talking to buddies? Now, I'm not saying that my own writing is perfect (I have long ago accepted that commas and I will never be friends), but I am saying that there are huge benefits to writing properly. For one thing it makes people take you more seriously when you don't talk like a thirteen-year-old overexcited teenage girl. For another it helps to raise your literacy levels because you are seeing and writing properly constantly, and absorbing every second of it whether you realize it or not. It also increases your typing and reading speeds. I know plenty of people who can sit in a chat room and talk for four hours, however, the number of people that I know who can type up a five page paper in one fifty minute class period is significantly lower. I wish that I could express more fully just how important reading and writing is in every moment of the day. A good book that is well written and thoughtful can change your life, I know because they've changed mine. I get a little bit heartbroken any time I hear people saying they don't like to read, because the literary world is vast and fascinating. Writing is one of the most powerful forms of expression on the planet, and reading is the most incredible pool of knowledge, history, and fantasies. To be able to use words to change lives is something extraordinary, but nobody will ever get there shortening their words and obliterating their adjectives. There's a reason that dictionaries are as heavy as they are, and there's a reason why there are over 600 languages on the planet that allow people of every single race and culture to communicate. The next time you're sitting around with your "ur"s, "omg"s, "srsly"s, and "lmao"s take a minute and consider the centuries old words that you are botching up while the people who died for the right to read roll over in their graves. Just keep in mind your abbreviations and scorn for long words when you meet a child who walks three hours every morning to get to the run down school in the next village just so he can learn a few more letters. Now, I could continue to talk about the merits of literacy for about fifty pages, but I'm running out of steam.

- dieing languages and the rise of the monolingual generation
- the falling standards for mass produced fiction targeted at today's youth
- plot vs. character vs. moral lesson - the never ending story development dilemma
